SCARIFYING

This is the removal of organic matter from around the stem of the grass plant to maintain a healthy growing environment above and below the surface.

Scarifying allows water to filter into the soil and it allows fresh air to flow around your growing lawn.
It gets rid of all that dull, lifeless, looking grass, giving your lawn a chance to breathe and leaving a beautiful green landscape. looking rather splendid.

When to scarify a lawn?

Pete recommends scarifying domestic (and established) lawns once a year. As he says – “As with all things in lawn care, little and often works best. Instead of having to go in hard and remove a lot of material (which may then necessitate seeding and top dressing), you will be in much better control and enjoy a faster recovery time.”

The consequences of not scarifying your lawn can be devastating. If dead grass cuttings are allowed to sit on the lawn’s surface, this can prevent rain water from draining deep into the ground where it’s needed the most. Much of the water and moisture will sit on top making your lawn soggy and looking sorry. The layer of dead grass that sits on top of a lawn is sometimes known as a ‘thatcher’, which explains the ‘detacher’ reference. Excess moisture can also encourage more moss growth, making the problem even worse.
