Top Dressing is an application of a thin layer of soil over a turf-grass area and is used to smooth and level the surface or to modify the soil condition, usually no more than 6 mm. to 1 cm.
Top Dressing usually consists of a mixture of materials such as soil, sand, loam and peat which is mixed in a way to resemble the already existing soil in terms of composition. Since topdressing will eventually become a part of the root zone, it's important that it blends well with the already established soil.
